Fort Stevens State Park, OR ~ best campsite?

I am heading from California up to Fort Stevens for several weeks next July. I am requesting all of our relatives and friends spread across the NW to come join us at the beach. Since I have never stayed in Ft. Stevens, but have read most folks rave reviews, I am looking forward to our visit.
So help a brother out ~ which campsite to choose? I would like something quiet and large. I am looking at the pull thrus in Loop M. Any other ideas?

RE: CA 99 west on 46 to 101

The 99 is on the east side of the central valley - I5 is on the west side. The 46 cuts straight through west/east on the both of these routes.
The 46 is fine straight through to Paso Robles - then south on the 101 to the the 46 west. I would prefer pulling my rig over the 46 and then south to Morro Bay on the 1, then moving farther south on the 101 to take the 41 into Morro Bay. But it depends on the size of your rig. It gets a little tight in places on the 41 - but the 46 is open with wide shoulders.

RE: Camping in Brookings, Oregon

Harris State Beach. Beautiful. Million dollar views. The map shows campsites that appear to be adjacent or near to Highway 1. The campsites are actually down a heavily wooded hill. It sits in the city limits of Brookings - but you would not now that.

The smoke is back

We have not had the smoke in the South San Joaquin Valley for two weeks. The wind must have changed direction. This morning I could see the smoke from the Piute fire in Kern County blowing towards the North West. It has now gotten thick enough to yellow out the sun. It was flowing straight east into the high desert. How are the rest of you folks faring?

RE: From Provo to Grand Tetons

I did the 189 to the 80 and spent the night at Fort Bridger, Wyoming. Went back up the 189 through Kemmerer and the Green River area to Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons.

RE: Getting to US 101 from I-5

Yep. 46 is my choice as well. I will be heading down it in about two weeks. Sure is better than it was 10 years ago.

RE: Fishing Bridge/Flagg Ranch/West Yellowstone

Here are some campground pictures from the summer of 2007. We are at fishing bridge in early June last year. But no piles of snow.

RE: smoke

We are heading to Felton, CA in a few weeks. (Just north of Santa Cruz) Anyone want to offer any information on smoke conditions?

RE: Which shocks for my 2500HD?

Rancho 9000s made all the difference in the world.
BTW: Yesterday I saw a 2008 Dodge Dakota, still with the paper plates, cross an intersection in front of me. He hit a bump and the bed bounced into the air. I hope he is looking into new shocks this morning.

RE: 3/4 ton truck drivers....humor me :)

Yep. Driving up I-15 in Utah. Had one hand on the wheel and the other on my coffee cup. Wind was sustained at 45 mph.

RE: My wife wants to drive my truck to work

Well this thread blew up.
Being a teacher with one more week of school left, I won't have to give up the truck until the fall. I hope fuel prices drop by then. But I don't think that is going to happen....

My wife wants to drive my truck to work

I drive 20 miles round trip to work - she drives four miles round trip. I drive the truck - she has a 2001 Honda. I just put $90 worth of diesel at $4.75 a gallon in the truck. Her Honda costs about $50 to fill up.
I am going to miss my truck....

RE: 101 Northern California

There are some tough and tight corners here and there. I moved into the other lanes when I needed more room. I was heading southbound ~ there is part where this huge tree is pratically on the white line. Good thing I could move over. I will do it again though.
